One project I completed as a student was a hypothetical branding collaboration project between The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve Whisky and The Calcutta Cup Rugby Match (Scotland v England).
The brief was to create a limited edition gift with a unique bottle label, package and side product.
I chose to theme this project around tradition and created a wooden cask-like box featuring a unique label design and bespoke bottle holder / commemorative kicking tee to be given as a gift to each player in the winning team of the match.
I enjoyed learning the history of the Calcutta Cup and incorporating that into the packaging as a nod to the origins of the game.
For the box element of my final concept I created a two part wooden box which slid open on a track to reveal the 'prize bottle'.
The gift product, a bottle holder/ornamental rugby tee, would sit inside the box to present the bottle as the user opened the box. The final part of the design, the bottle label, was inspired by The Calcutta Cup itself as well as the traditionalist origins of The Glenlivet whisky brand.
As the whole country went into lockdown, our access to workshops and studios was completely cut off. This meant that my final model was created with different materials than I had planned and being of lower quality than I had hoped. However I am still happy with how the final concept photography turned out.
